What Customers Say About The Notebook:

The novel was so beautiful and romantic and I felt the last "unbuttoning" cheapened the message a little. The Notebook is amazingly detailed and heartfelt for such a short book. I was happy to find that the movie didn't stray too far from the heart of the book. The Notebook is a fairly well-known story as it was the basis of the wildly successful movie of the same name. It's ability to invoke such deep feeling, compassion and complete understanding of its characters make reading it an experience to be treasured. The Notebook is a beautiful, heart-breaking story and the characters Noah and Allie are utterly convincing in their love for one another. The last paragraph threw me and brought my final rating of the book down slightly. I am in no way a romantic at heart, but even I found the story to be very touching. I also found it rather flowery and full of an abundance of poetry that didn't speak to my hardened heart, but could very likely leave a romantic personality completely smitten.

It made me think of my own mortality, my partner, my parents. It is a fully adult story of two people who never gave up on their first true love even after being separated for fourteen years. The final third returns to the old man and old woman.

I was unsure and a leery when I started it. But, by the end of the opening scene, I was completely sucked in.

This book is not the sort of thing I normally read but was instead selected for me as part of a book group. It is not a fluffy tale of lust and desire or of cheap emotions.

It opens with an old man reading a story to his wife who has Alzheimer's and doesn't recognize him. The scene is so well written and is both powerful and understated, I found myself getting emotional. The middle two-thirds of the book go back in time 45 years and tell a beautiful story of love found, lost and found again.

Their story is painful and wonderful. It gave me a model to live into 40 years from now when its my turn to be in my twilight years.

A beautifully written story of true love and devotion. Sparks' artful words will restore your confidence in the goodness and capacity for endless love in the heart of man.

Though their passionate love seems indestructible at first, they learn that being away is enough to destroy even their friendship. They spend only two days together but even this amount of time was enough to fall deeply in love with each other once again. Allie realizes that she needs to be with Noah in order to have a happy life. Allie's parents were rich folks who wanted their daughter to go to a University and marry a wealthy businessman whereas Noah and his father were perfectly happy on their own even though they did not have much money. Allie's parents finally realize that keeping the two apart will never work and Allie and Noah truly belong together. One theme throughout this story is that true love will overcome all obstacles.

Allie is set to marry a rich man named Lon whom her parents adore but she may not be truly in love with. I can relate this story to The Alchemist because the theme in that book is that if you really want something and are meant to have it, the whole universe conspires to help you achieve it. The story finishes by referring back to the beginning and revealing that the old man and his wife were really Noah and Allie. When Noah sends Allie letters almost everyday, her parents secretly hide them from her to avoid her from falling for him again. The themes throughout the plot vary from general life lessons to choosing your priorities.

Fourteen years pass with no communication between the two until a realization comes about. He tells her a story of two young lovers, Allie Nelson and Noah Calhoun, who fall in love one summer but then Allie moves away. love taught me more about the classes of society in their setting. This story starts out with the description of an old man reading a story to his wife who doesn't remember him because of her serious case of Alzheimer's. This is shown in the plot itself when Allie is engaged to Lon, but her and Noah's true love overcomes her family and Lon's money allowing them to be together. When preparations for the wedding become overwhelming, Allie suddenly takes off to find Noah. Most importantly, he wants readers to understand that Noah's character strengthens because of the love he has for Allie. She gets her memory back and remembers her past once more.

The Notebook, by Nicholas Sparks, is a sensational love story filled with ups and downs, memories and adventures, affection and happiness. In The Notebook, Allie wants nothing more than to be with Noah and even though she is engaged, the world conspires to getting Noah and Allie together. Having the conflict of money vs. Throughout this book, I was reminded that at times love blocks out all society, class, and conflict in order to bring two people together forever. I loved this story and thought it was one of the better love stories I have read. His character is more distinct because he has such strong feelings for her. Allie and Noah came from different classes of society so naturally, Allie's rich parents were not fond of Noah from the beginning. He also shows that if you are in love with a person, it is just as powerful as being loved by another.

After reading to his wife for so long trying to make her remember the love they once shared, Noah helps Allie realize that they are married and have children. Even for those who have seen the movie, I would still recommend reading this book. The author, Nicholas Sparks, wants the reader to take away many lessons from this story. Nicholas Sparks does a great job with this complicated novel and I would recommend this to teenagers who enjoy a touching romantic novel about the powerful themes of love.

I've been told that not weeping over this sentimental, plotless non-story makes me heartless. Noah does not even appear human, but a robot programmed to spew mushy dialogue in a never-ending stream. I know a lot of people like, even obsessively love, THE NOTEBOOK by Nicholas Sparks, bestselling author who seems to have a goal of getting all his books made into movies. BUT I felt bad about watching the movie without reading the book, as, for some reason, I have a personal rule about not doing that.

I was expecting a sweeping adventure romance. Unless you think someone telling someone else how much they love them, in the purplest prose imaginable, for about a hundred pages, an interesting story, in which case The Notebook might just be the right book for you.I realize I'm being harsh, but I am dumbfounded that this book, actually that this author in general, has risen to such popularity and success. Well, I was out of movie ideas for the weekend, and since I'd never seen The Notebook, one of my friends suggested I rent it. I think it makes me someone with enough heart to know a real romance when I see one, and Noah Calhoun and Allie Nelson are no Mr. I mean, I'm a girl just like any other, and I would laugh hysterically if someone told me that our "souls [were] connected" or canoed me out in a storm to see a freak gathering of white birds.

There was also little to no plot in this book. But I'm not one of them. Darcy and Lizzie Bennett. Yes, the tiny background character who only appears for a second or two.

How did I wind up spending two hours of my life reading this book. Where did Nicholas Sparks get the notion that this was romantic. In fact, half the time I was reading this book, I was laughing at the sheer ridiculousness of it all. But really, nothing happens. Nor [insert romantic couple here]. I found him amusing at least. Now that I've read the book, however, I can tell you I will probably not be watching its film counterpart anytime soon.

I wish Mr. Nor a Scarlett O'Hara and Rhett Butler. They are one-dimensional fantasy people, possibly the two most obvious Mary Sues I've ever read. I was going to give this one star, but for all its flaws, I actually enjoyed one thing about this book: Morris Goldman. Sparks had written more about Morris Goldman.
